This long-distance bike trail begins at the Ammer springs in the Graswang Valley, one of the most beautiful high valleys in the Bavarian Alps. Passing the Passion play town of Oberammergau, the trail along the Ammer river leaves the Ammergau Alps Nature Park<\/strong><\/a> and crosses the picturesque hilly landscape of the Pfaffenwinkel<\/strong><\/a> with its numerous cultural monuments. <\/p>

North of Weilheim, past the Ammersee<\/strong><\/a> with its bathing beaches and shipping, the bike path now winds along the Amper River. Numerous sights, recreational opportunities and beautiful river and floodplain landscapes await the cyclist on the last section. <\/p>

You will pass the baroque town F\u00fcrstenfeldbruck<\/strong><\/a> the former artists\u2019 colony Dachau<\/strong><\/a> and the cathedral city Freising<\/strong><\/a> before the Amper flows into the Isar in Moosburg<\/strong><\/a>. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The journey along the Ammer<\/strong> begins at the train station of tranquil Oberammergau<\/strong>, which can be reached by the hourly Ammergau train. The town is surrounded by mountains and nature reserves and is the venue of the most famous Passion Play in the world. <\/p>

In one of them, the Ettaler Weidmoos<\/strong>, a good ten minutes by bike south of Oberammergau, the Ammer rises in the shadow of the Ammergau Alps. By the way, a few minutes away from the spring area is the famous Benedictine Abbey of Ettal.<\/p>

Directly on the trail is the Schwaigsee<\/strong>, which is perfect for cooling off, and the Sch\u00f6negger K\u00e4sealm, where you can not only taste the cheese, but also watch it being made.<\/p>

Passing Rottenbuch Monastery<\/strong>, whose church is decorated in almost lavish rococo, you follow the cycle path to Peiting<\/strong>. Today’s stage destination has preserved its Bavarian village character and is surrounded by multiple hills.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tAs soon as you leave Peiting, you enter a beautiful forest and moorland area<\/strong>. Afterwards, you cycle along the Ammer again until you reach today\u2019s destination Die\u00dfen after a good hour.\n\nShortly before Pei\u00dfenberg<\/strong>, you reach the Ammer again, which meanders wildly through the landscape here. The bike path runs directly along the bank of the river. Here you can wonderfully stretch your feet into the water to cool off a bit. After the extremely beautiful trail, you take a detour to Polling<\/strong> with its enormous monastery complex<\/strong>, which today houses a hospice.\n\nNot far from Polling lies Weilheim<\/strong> in the heart of the Pfaffenwinkel. The historic old town invites you to linger. Marienplatz<\/strong>, surrounded by colorful houses, is also the ideal place for a cappuccino.\n\nAfterwards, you cycle along the Ammer again until you reach<\/strong>today’s destination Die\u00dfen<\/strong>after a good hour. The Ammer flows into the Ammersee here. Die\u00dfen is idyllically located on the southwestern corner of the Ammersee and is, among other things, a meeting place for artists who gather every year around Ascension Day at the famous pottery market. In addition, the town is the starting point for boat trips<\/strong>(seenschifffahrt.de\/en\/ammersee\/<\/a>) and is home to the Marienm\u00fcnster<\/strong>, one of the most important baroque churches in southern Germany.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

3rd stage: Die\u00dfen - F\u00fcrstenfeldbruck (approx. 36 km) <\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Right at the beginning of today’s stage, you ride along the entire western shore of the Ammersee <\/strong>for about 15 kilometers.<\/p>

Again and again, gravel beaches invite you to swim, for example in Utting<\/strong>. From there you have a beautiful view of the lake and recognize the Andechs monastery on the opposite side, as it sits enthroned on a hill.<\/p>

Before the lake ends, nearly two dozen contemporary works of art await you between Schondorf and Eching<\/strong> on the sculpture trail between the lake and the forest.<\/p>

From now on a little more hilly you follow the river again, which from Ammersee on is no longer called Ammer but Amper<\/strong>. On the way you will enjoy a magnificent view of the Alps and the Ampermoos nature reserve<\/strong>.<\/p>

Shortly before Grafrath on the right side there is an ornithological station. From there you can observe the protected bird life of the bog, which was formed during the last ice age. The beautiful route is from now on a little bit hillier than the first 25 kilometers of your stage. On your way is the amper power station in Sch\u00f6ngeising<\/strong>, built over 120 years ago.<\/p>

Through beautiful nature, past two 300-year-old oak trees<\/strong>, your path leads you to your stage destination F\u00fcrstenfeldbruck<\/strong>. Before you reach the city center, you cycle right past the city’s landmark, the F\u00fcrstenfeld Monastery<\/strong>. The huge monastery complex is an outstanding example of southern German late Baroque.<\/p>

Above all, the beautiful gardens are<\/strong> recommended, such as the orchard, the baroque garden or very important for the end of your stage: the beer garden.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Today you have a really relaxing stage in beautiful nature ahead of you. From F\u00fcrstenfeldbruck you take a nice bike path to Olching<\/strong>, but it doesn’t go directly along the Amper River. <\/p>

In Olching you drive through the beautiful Amperauen<\/strong>, a recreational area between the Amper and the M\u00fchlbach<\/strong>. Here you will find a bird park<\/strong>, floodplain forests and a lot of untouched nature.<\/p>

After a relaxing ride, you will reach your stage destination Dachau<\/strong> after a short time. The ascent to the castle is the only climb of your day and it’s worth it, because from the top you can enjoy a beautiful view <\/strong>. Following the Amper river you leave Dachau. On the way, between the W\u00fcrm and the Amper, you will find a small natural treasure at the W\u00fcrmm\u00fchlweiher<\/strong>.<\/p>

A short detour leads you to the sad landmark of Dachau. In the concentration camp memorial<\/strong> you will find silent witnesses of the darkest time of the past century.<\/p>

The path leads along small roads always near the Amper river. The route takes you through floodplain forests<\/strong>, past old arms of the Amper River and ponds where you can cool off. Together with the many rivers and streams that flow into the Amper, a branched river system in intact nature is created.<\/p>

After just under 70 kilometers, you reach Moosburg<\/strong> and thus the end of the Ammer-Amper cycle path. The beautiful old town with its historic town houses invites you to stroll or eat ice cream. The route ends at Moosburg train station. With the frequent regional trains, you can reach Munich in about an hour. <\/p>

Slightly north of Moosburg, first the M\u00fchlbach flows into the Amper and then the Amper flows into the Isar. So if you ride about three more kilometers north from the train station, you will have cycled the course of the Ammer River from its source to Lake Ammersee and the Amper River to its mouth on the Isar<\/strong> River. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
